* Composition: esomeprazole sodium 42.5mg, equivalent to esomeprazole 40mg. | ||
* Keep the vial in the outer carton in order to protect from light. | ||
* Indications and Usage: | ||
– NEXIUM I.V. is indicated for the short-term treatment (up to 10 days) of GERD patients with | ||
& a history of erosive esophagitis as an alternative to oral therapy in patients when it is not | ||
& possible or appropriate. | ||
– When oral therapy is possible or appropriate; I.V. therapy with NEXIUM I.V. should be discontinued | ||
& and therapy should be continued orally. | ||
– Children<18years: not recommended. | ||
– Severe hepatic impairment: max 20mg/day. | ||
* Precautions: | ||
– Symptomatic response to therapy with NEXIUM does not preclude the presence of gastric | ||
& malignancy. | ||
– Atrophic gastritis has been noted occasionally in gastric corpus biopsies from patients treated | ||
& long-term with omeprazole, of which NEXIUM is an enantiomer. | ||
– Treatment with NEXIUM I.V. should be discontinued as soon as the patient is able to resume treatment | ||
& with oral therapy. | ||
– Pregnancy (Cat.B). Nursing mothers: not recommended. | ||
* Dosage and administration: | ||
– GERD with a history of erosive esophagitis: the recommended adult dose is either 20 or 40 mg | ||
& esomeprazole given once daily by I.V. injection (no less than 3 minutes) or I.V. infusion (10 to 30 min). | ||
* Preparation for use: | ||
– I.V. injection: The powder should be reconstituted with 5mL of 0.9% Sodium Chloride Injection. | ||
& Withdraw 5 mL of the reconstituted solution and administer as an I.V. injection over no less than 3 min. | ||
& The reconstituted solution should be stored at room temperature up to 30 oC and administered within | ||
& 12 hours after reconstitution. No refrigeration is required. | ||
– I.V. infusion: A solution for I.V. infusion is prepared by first reconstituting the contents of one vial | ||
& with 5 mL of 0.9% Sodium Chloride Injection, Lactated Ringer’s Injection, or 5% Dextrose Injection | ||
& and further diluting the resulting solution to a final volume of 50 mL. The solution (admixture) should | ||
& be administered as an I.V. infusion over a period of 10 to 30 minutes. The admixture should be stored | ||
& at room temperature up to 30 oC and should be administered within the designated time period: | ||
. 0.9% Sodium Chloride Injection: within 12 hours. | ||
. Lactated Ringer’s Injection: within 12 hours. | ||
. 5% Dextrose Injection: within 6 hours. | ||
– NEXIUM I.V. should not be administered concomitantly with any other medications through the same | ||
